A Bit About My Approach to Yoga

Hatha Yoga
I have been so blessed to learn about hatha yoga, from my first yoga teacher trainers, Cindy Szekely and Carla Wainwright, and then their teacher, Mugs McConnell.  Mugs' yoga lineage is founded in the teachings of Hari Dickman, who she dedicated her book Letters from the Yoga Masters to, as it reveals the insights about numerous yoga techniques and systems, as shared with Hari by the many gurus he corresponded with over his lifetime.

Hatha yoga training has taught me an abundance of things beyond physical poses, and I am grateful to have those options available in my yoga toolkit!

Chair Yoga
In my early days of teaching yoga, several Elders at the Prince George Native Friendship Center politely informed me that "if you make me get down on the floor, I might not be able to get back up again!"  This insight started a journey for me of trying to find ways to teach that are accessible, respectful and enjoyable for anyone in a body experiencing limitation, pain, or sudden change.  I completed a specialty project on chair yoga as part of my 300-hour yoga teacher training.

Therapeutic Yoga
While I am not certified in yoga therapy, I am certainly inspired by the likes of Doug Keller and Trina Altman, and find my own body responds to creative variations of traditional poses that help with re-learning or reconsidering safe and physically possible ways of moving through a yoga class, with a focus on healing and listening to the body.
